Walgreens run

We went to Walgreens to pick up my free photo collage print and I took a moment to look over their sales circular before we went.  Glad I did.  They had Coffee Mate creamer buy one get one free at $2.69 for both, and I've got two $1.50/1 coupons for it.  Overage!!  I also noticed they had Blistex for $2.59 with a $2.60 RR (Register Rewards, Walgreens' store dollars), making that free.

So we picked up the print (which was truly free, no tax), found the Blistex, and *gasp* they were out of Coffee Mate.  Arrggh!
That's okay, we got a raincheck and I'll pick it up later.

The only problem is I'd grabbed these cute plastic Halloween tumblers that were 8 for $1 to use as filler for the creamer overage and I didn't put them back.  Since we didn't get the creamer today I didn't need them ....ah well, they're adorable.  I got four skeleton cups and four kitty cups.

Regular price:  $9.55.
Total was $3.59 and we got $2.60 back in RR.  $.99 for everything, or a 90% savings.  How cute are those tumbler cups??

After Wags, we went to my mom's for a yummy lasagna dinner and to trade some coupons for tomorrow's sales.  I'm going the Alka-Seltzer route and Mom's going the Bayer Low Dose route at Rite Aid, so we exchanged.  I now have enough coupons to get the 6 Alka-Seltzers and make a $15 profit.  Let's hope it's in stock!

Chairman Meow appears to have had a long day while we were gone.  His life is so difficult.

I bought some of those tumbler cups at Walgreens last night, as well. I got four of the skeleton ones and four with witches. Plus two packages of tampons for my sister ($4.99 each instead of $8+), and two bags of Ricola (free). Not too shabby for a first trip to Walgreens, I don't think.

I'd say that's not too shabby indeed! I'm going to give Wags another go tomorrow or Monday...perhaps you might like to try the same deals:

Buy one Contac flu 28ct for $6, get $6 in RR back
Use the $2 coupon from this site:
http://www.essentialsforlivingwell.com/eflw_couponsmicrosite.promo
or from the 10/10 Red Plum coupon insert

And buy one Colgate Sensitive toothpaste 6oz for $3.49, get $3.49 in RR back
Use the $1 coupon from this site:
http://www.colgate.com/app/Colgate/US/Corp/Consumers/SpecialOffers.cvsp

Pay $6.49 plus tax after coupons, get back $9.49 in RR. Moneymaker!!

Oooh, thanks for the heads up! I've never heard of Contac, but for free, I'm certainly willing to try it out!

For free you'll try it, for a $2 profit you should leap all over it!! Remember, you get back the full $6 purchase price in reward dollars, but you're using a $2 coupon to only spend $4 of your money. ;)

Now here's something to keep in mind when it comes to Walgreens.
Unless there's a stated limit (and there isn't with these two items) you can purchase them as many times as you want and get the RRs back. You can only do one per transaction to get the RRs, AND, most importantly, you can't use the RR from the Contac to buy another Contac, or the RR from the Colgate to buy another Colgate.

If you're in need of toothpaste, it may be worth it to you to buy two or three tubes in separate transactions with the coupons and use the RRs you get back from the toothpaste to pay for the Contac. Just remember you don't get change for RRs, so you need to get a couple cheap items as filler if you do it this way. Say you buy two toothpastes for $4.98 cash in two transactions, you'll get $7 back in RRs total. You can then use those RRs to buy the Contac plus a couple candy bars, or something else that costs a buck. You'll spend only tax out of your pocket, and receive back $6 in RRs which you can either use to buy something else that same day or you can save it for another deal. :)

So, we did end up hitting Walgreens today. Took three transactions, but ended up getting the Contac, Colgate, a snack size bag of Reese's, a snack size bag of Kit Kats, 2 bags of candy corn, 2 photo collages (2 for $5 with online code, since I was happy with the free one I got), 2 bags of Halls, 2 packages of Trident Layers, 3 boxes of instant pudding, 2 perpetual weekly calendars, a small wall calendar, and a gallon of milk (the last three were all things mom decided to buy), a $49.56 value, for $21.61 out of pocket. It would have been $1 less if I hadn't forgotten one of my coupons at home.

Thanks to the RRs from the Contac/Colgate RRs, the transaction with the candy and the collages ended up being just $4.26. Mom liked that.

Nicely done! Those collage prints really are nice, aren't they??

So aside from the calendars & milk, how did you do savings-wise on the non impulse buys?

I do indeed have 2 more Alka Seltzer coupons so I'm hitting Wags later this week (Thursday, when their next truck comes in) for 2 of those, my creamer, some free Mentos, and figured I'd do another Colgate & Contac deal while I'm there. All the cold/flu meds I've picked up over the past couple weeks expire in 2012 or 2013 so I'll buy 'em up while they're free/profitable!

Keep an eye out in next week's paper - there's going to be a coupon for $1 off Gain dish detergent, and that often goes on sale for $1 or less at Walmart, Wags, Target, etc. Free dish soap! There'll also be a $4 coupon for Vicks Sinex again which will likely go back on sale for ~$5 soon. Last round of those I wound up making a $12 profit on 8 boxes!

I'm buying 7-10 papers just based on those two coupons alone; I suggest you consider buying a couple extras. :)

Not including mom's impulse buys, it would have been $13.62 for $41.57 worth of merchandise, a savings of roughly 67%.

I will definitely be on the lookout for the Gain coupons. I actually had one from a couple weeks ago for the $1 off dish soap, and Walmart has a small one for 97 cents.
